The project includes 13 weeks of prime-time TV drama on SABC1 and 13 weeks of radio talk-show on radio metro, encouraging discussion on the key issues raised by the TV drama. In addition, 1 million youth print magazines have been distributed to schools around the country and teacher guides have been placed in newspapers.
Education, children, youth.
The music for the series was written by popular kwaito artists and released on CD and cassette. The album has reached gold as is one of the fastest selling music CDs in the country. The series has created unprecedented levels of debate amongst the South African public. Those who attack it claim that it glamourises violence, it portrays black people in a bad light and that the language is vulgar. Those who defend it claim that it serves as a wake up call to parents and has exposed the bad behaviour of some elements of society. An impact study will be conducted by an independent research agency.
