The Communication Initiative
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.
 
Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.
 
We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at lainiciativadecomunicacion.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

The Partnership for Economic Policy (PEP) is launching a call for research proposals, in the context of a multi-country initiative co-funded by the Department for International Development (DFID) of the United Kingdom (or UK aid) and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) of Canada.

This initiative comprises a key “capacity building” component, and selection of several teams of individual researchers, based in developing countries. The intended benefit from the “PEP support program”, is high quality research projects.

A basic PAGE grant amounts to approximately US$44500, including US$20000 in research (cash) grant and up to US$24 500 in various subsidies (for participation in PEP meetings, study visits, working paper and journal publication grants, presentations in international conferences, organization of national policy conferences and dissemination activities).

For projects from low-income Countries (LIC) teams, an additional US$13500 is provided to allow 2 team members to attend a PEP School.

For projects using randomised control trials (RCT), up to US$100000 in extra funding is provided for the conduct of baseline and follow-up surveys.

Application Info

All members of applicant teams must be developing country nationals (and reside in a developing country during the full course of the project), with priority given to teams from LIC countries, fragile and/or conflict states (see list).  Teams are generally composed of at least one senior researcher leading several junior researchers, of which at least 50% are females.  University-level training in economics or equivalent experience will generally be required.

Interested researchers who are not eligible for funding are nonetheless encouraged to use the training material, readings, and other information and resources made available on the PEP website.
