Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.
 
Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.
 
We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Communications Internship

Search for Common Ground (SFCG)’s Communications Department is seeking an unpaid internship for Fall 2011. The Communications Intern will assist in the design and implementation of many projects, including the Common Ground Awards, and contributing to and editing Search for Common Ground’s social media.

Responsibilities:

1) The 2011 Common Ground Awards

Research potential award recipients
Assist in planning and organisation of the ceremony
Organise and maintain files for the awardees

2) Social Media

Write and edit contributions to the Common Ground Blog, Twitter, and Facebook pages
Follow-up with in-field staff for updates

3) SFCG Website

Participate in web redesign and content analysis

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Knowledge of and interest in communications
  • Knowledge of and interest in documentary films
  • Experience in using social media (Facebook, Twitter, Lunch, StumbleUpon, Digg, YouTube, WordPress, etc).
  • Blogging experience is a plus
  • Commitment to conflict resolution
  • Independent worker not needing close supervision
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Self-starter; organized; detail-oriented
  • Good Internet research skills
  • Solid computer skills
