Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at lainiciativadecomunicacion.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText
This publication, from the series Promotion and Education, Volume XIV Number 2 2007, is from the International Union for Health Promotion and Education (IUHPE), with funding from the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). It focuses on the strategic significance of community health promotion in contemporary health systems. It contains an editorial and articles organised by language group on advancing knowledge, case studies on current health promotion practices in communities (organised by continent or region), advocacy and advocacy in action, and showcasing networks.

The editorial states that the Global Consortium on Community Heath Promotion "defines community health promotion as a participatory empowering equity focused process – one that regards community participation as being essential to every stage of health promoting actions as well as one that leverages community assets and knowledge to create the necessary conditions for health."
