Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText

e-Agriculture is a global Community of Practice, where people from all over the world exchange information, ideas, and resources related to the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) for sustainable agriculture and rural development.

With over 8,000 members from 160 countries and territories, the e-Agriculture Community is made up of individual stakeholders such as information and communication specialists, researchers, farmers, students, policy makers, business people, development practitioners, and others.

The e-Agriculture website is organised into communications sections for members to share and develop knowledge and information on ICT in support of agriculture and rural development.  Section headings include Resources, Key Topics, Dialogue, and Connect.  Within these users are able to catch up on news and events, read and add to blog and forum postings, and communicate directly with other members.  Key Topics include Agricultural Value Chains and ICT, Gender, the ICT in Agriculture Sourcebook, Mobile Telephony, Public and Private Partnerships, and follow-up information on the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) with regards to the identified action line of e-agriculture and subsequent responsibilities of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

Users are free to view materials on the website without membership obligations, however contribution to forums, blog postings, and communications with members require user accounts.  Membership registration information can be found here.
