Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at lainiciativadecomunicacion.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText
This manual by ILEIA, the Centre for Information on Low External Input and Sustainable Agriculture, is intended to help small-scale farmers organise, analyse, and document their experiences. ILEIA notes that many initiatives in sustainable agricultural development around the world go unnoticed and undocumented and that, by analysing and writing about these initiatives, they can be shared, so that lessons learnt can be used to further develop knowledge about sustainable agriculture. This step-by-step methodology is created to be adaptable and relevant in various circumstances for people in a variety of roles. The documentation/systematisation method described in the manual intends to enable non-governmental organisations (NGOs), farmers, extension workers, or anyone who is interested, to document their experience in order to analyse it, to learn from it, and then to share it.

Contents include:
  • Principles of documentation

    1. First things first - participation, resource, deadlines, available and to-be-found information, objectives
