The Communication Initiative
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.
 
Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.
 
We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Maternal and Child Survival Program (MCSP)

Summary

MCSP provides funding to The CI for its polio programming work, including the research on household decision-making regarding health care and immunisation - including polio immunisation - in Nigeria between 2013 and 2015. MCSP provided technical input and programme support to The CI throughout the research. To access an organising page with all of the research documentation, click here.

MCSP is a global, USAID Cooperative Agreement to introduce and support high-impact health interventions with a focus on 24 high-priority countries with the ultimate goal of ending preventable child and maternal deaths within a generation. The programme is focused on ensuring that all women, newborns, and children most in need have equitable access to quality health care services to save lives. MCSP supports programming in maternal, newborn and child health, immunisation, family planning and reproductive health, nutrition, health systems strengthening, water/sanitation/hygiene, malaria, prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, and paediatric HIV care and treatment.
