Pen Canada/Paul Kidd Courage Prize
PEN Canada invites nominations for its Paul Kidd Courage Prize, awarded to writers and journalists who have shown exceptional courage and integrity in the interest of free expression. Eligible nominees must be Canadian or an employee of a Canadian publishing or media company, and meet at least two of the following criteria:
- have made a significant impact through their writing or broadcasting;
- have demonstrated a willingness to put their career on the line to get to the
heart of a story; - and have shown courage and taken an independent viewpoint.
The award is named for Canadian foreign correspondent, Paul Kidd, who, prior to his death in 2002, filed reports from more than 70 countries, braving street violence, gunfire, terrorism and arrest.
The deadline for application is July 12 2007.
