Poster Competition for Youth - Islamabad, Pakistan
AGEHI Resource Center-SACHET is sponsoring a youth poster competition as part of its August 2003 "Regional Conference on Youth & Promotion of Human Development". Students in Islamabad schools and colleges, as well as out-of-school youth, are invited to participate in the competition. The purpose of the project is to encourage young people to participate in the process of raising awareness about the role of youth in promoting human development (health, education, economy, happiness, self-esteem, freedom to choose, and sustainability). Three winners will earn a free stay in Islamabad during the conference.
Communication Strategies
Youth in two categories - 8-14 years and 15-19 years - are encouraged to "Express Yourself!!! Sketch your dreams!!! Color your ideas!!!". Any medium, except for an electronic medium, can be used to produce the poster - e.g., paint, crayon, collage. Entrants are encouraged to work creatively to articulate the themes of the conference, which include youth and poverty, youth and the media, youth and peace, youth and gender; posters drawing out other development-related themes that have personal relevance to the entrant will also be considered.
Posters submitted to AGEHI Resource Center-SACHET will be presented to conference participants as part of an exhibition. All entrants are encouraged to attend the conference; however, only the three competition winners will enjoy free travel and lodging.

Organisers note that young people face many challenges in today's networked world, including securing education and training opportunities, finding employment, dealing with cultural changes and diversity, coping with drugs and violence, and facing ever-increasing levels of poverty. In an effort to provide what they see as a rare opportunity for youth to express their perspectives on the process of human development, SACHET (Society for the Advancement of Community, Health, Education and Training) planned this event as a Communication Project of its training programme called "Investing in Future". AGEHI Resource Center, the technical wing of SACHET, is implementing the project.
The three-day conference has been organised as follows: an inaugural session, three research paper presentations, eight panel discussions, three theatrical performances, and four exhibitions (posters, videos, traditional crafts, and information technology products). The conference aims to provide a meeting ground for those between the ages of 8 to 40 including youth, youth activists, youth leaders, professionals, scholars, civic entrepreneurs, policy makers, and researchers.
