Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at lainiciativadecomunicacion.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText
This survey report conducted from August through September 2004 seeks to query views on the application of Change Management as well as the competitive advantage of different methodologies including drawbacks and prospects. 562 questionnaires were reviewed and 45% of the survey's responses came from outside North America and Europe. Respondents included a vast array of private businesses, public services, development agencies, NGOs and universities. The report is broken into 4 parts:
  • Part 1 introduces the concept of Change Management, objectives and methodology of the survey, and gives an overview on the geographical and institutional background of the respondents.
  • Part 2 provides an analysis of the survey results with regard to practice, future and limitations of Change Management approaches. Each analysis is summarized in the form of a lesson learned. The results are disaggregated for geographical area, business sector, position and length of experience of the respondent.
  • Part 3 is an A-Z of Change Management, briefly outlining 56 methods and approaches that are currently applied for initiating, facilitating and maintaining change processes.
  • Part 4 describes three different scenarios of the future of Change Management. It answers strategic questions such as: How will Change Management processes of the future be organised? What will be the role of consultants in Change Management processes? Do we need new tools?
This survey is conducted by The Change Management Tool Box, a group seeking to support individuals, teams and organisations that aim to master any change they need.
