Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Tobacco use by the Minors in Bangladesh and SBCC Summit

It’s apparent to everyone of us that using tobacco or tobacco products by anybody is harmful to health. It is more alarming to note down the deplorable effects of tobacco use by a minor because they are growing. It’s a prior evidence that those who start smoking at early age, they may lead to continue to using it when they are adults. Though the law doesn’t permit selling cigarette to and by the minors in Bangladesh, the implementation of the law faces many challenges. The minors can easily buy and sale the cigarette without any momentous restrictions.  They are not aware of the law and even most of the adult sellers who were selling to them, they are not bother with it.

At the coming #SBCC Summit, we will look forward see the provisions of buying and selling cigarette by the minors in Bangladesh? What factors pushes or pulls them to be involved to this business? What are the main reasons of non-implementation of the law?
