Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at lainiciativadecomunicacion.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText
The objective of this online tool (also available on CD-ROM) is to enhance the global community's ability to address priority issues for health managers trying to improve immunisation programmes in developing countries. AIM e-Learning modules intend to provide up-to-date information to immunisation managers using interactive learning techniques available on the Internet and CD-ROM. PATH, an international nonprofit organisation based in Seattle, Washington; and Stanford University's SUMMIT, a centre developing innovative information technology for education, have teamed together for this effort.

AIM e-Learning modules are currently available in English, French, Bahasa Indonesian, and Russian, and may be translated into additional languages to increase their utility and reach.

This tool was designed by PATH's Children's Vaccine Program (CVP) and SUMMIT/Learning Technologies at Stanford University School of Medicine, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and other partners of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization.

As of May 2006, the following modules were available:

Considerations for Introduction of New and Underutilized Vaccines
Currently covers hepatitis B vaccine and Japanese encephalitis vaccines.

Immunization Financing
This module aims to teach financial skills to help managers strengthen their immunisation programmes. It includes an introduction to the basics of immunisation financing, and information on the vaccine market, costing, budgeting, financing, and strategies to improve sustainability.

Excel Tutorials
These tutorials are intended to help readers learn more about Microsoft Excel, a spreadsheet application used widely for financing tables, charts and data.
