Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

IDEO Fellowship

IDEO, a design firm that takes a human-centred approach to helping organisations in the public and private sectors, is inviting applications for an 11-month fellowship programme. Applicants should have experience in the social sector, business world, or design industry "with a passion for improving low-income communities and spreading human-centred design." Through the duration of the fellowship, residents will work on poverty-related challenges covering an array of topics such as agriculture, gender equity, financial services, health, and water and sanitation. Residents will join senior designers from IDEO to form IDEO.org’s interdisciplinary design team for an 11-month period and will be based in San Francisco, California, United States, but will spend significant time travelling and in the field. Three of the seven residents will be senior designers from IDEO. The remaining four residents will be selected from around the globe for their demonstrated leadership skills in the private, social, and design realms.
