1. Jonathan Mann Award for Global Health and Human Rights
Presented annually to a leading practitioner in health and human rights.
Deadline: January 31 2005

2. IEEE Award in International Communication
Offered for outstanding contributions to international communication.
Deadline: January 31 - annually

3. Nansen Refugee Award
Honours outstanding service to the cause of refugees. The award is administered by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
Deadline: January 31 - annually

4. Champions of the Earth
Recognises the outstanding achievements of individuals and organisations in protecting and improving the environment. The award is administered by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
Deadline: February 1 2005 - extended to February 15 2005

5. The Global Health Council Annual Photo Contest
Awards amateurs and professionals who submit selections of their work that communicate global health issues.
Deadline: February 1 2005 - extended to March 1 2005

6. International Prize for Mediterranean Documentary and Report
Awards documentary film-making, reporting and investigative films that depict the problems in the Mediterranean today.
Deadline: February 1 2005

7. Best Practices in Global Health
Highlights the efforts of people dedicated to improving the health of disadvantaged and disenfranchised populations (particularly children) and recognises programmes that effectively demonstrate the link between health, poverty and development - and that have made a difference.
Deadline: February 28 2005

8. Global Health Excellence in Media Award
Annually, given to a journalist (print, electronic, or visual) who has in the prior year most effectively captured the essence of a major issue in global health and conveyed it to a broad audience.
Deadline: February 28 2005

9. Development Gateway Award
Recognises outstanding achievement in using information and communication technology (ICT) to improve people's lives in developing countries. An award of USD $100,000.
Deadline: February 28 2005

10. Ramsar / MedWet Award
Encourages excellence and talent in film making addressing themes related to water and water related ecosystems, particularly wetlands. The award is accompanied by a prize of 4,000 Euros.
Deadline: March 1 2005

11. Prix Ars Electronica 2005
Recognises technologies that bridge the digital divide. Awards will be given in the following categories: "Computer Animation / Visual Effects", "Digital Musics", "Interactive Art", "Net Vision" and "Digital Communities".
Deadline: March 11 2005

12. Courage in Journalism Award
Honours women working in the news media who have demonstrated extraordinary strength of character in pursuing their profession under difficult or dangerous circumstances. The prize is USD $5,000 and a sculpture symbolising freedom and courage.
Deadline: March 15 2005

13. Southern African Development Community (SADC) Media Awards
Aims to promote regional cooperation and integration by encouraging journalists to improve their reporting and analysis of regional development issues. An award of USD $2,000 is given in each of four categories: photojournalism, print, radio and television. The contest is open to SADC member nations.
Deadline: March 30 2005

14. Tech Museum Awards
Honours and awards innovators from around the world who use technology to benefit humanity in the categories of education, equality, economic development, environment, and health. Five Laureates in each category are honoured, and USD $250,000 in cash prizes are awarded.
Deadline: April 4 2005

15. CIDA Youth Education and Training Awards - Africa (CYETA)
Aims to provide support on a competitive basis for education and training offered in the participant's home country and will be linked to Candian International Development Agency (CIDA) programming priorities. The focus is on helping youth already engaged in their country's development through work in non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and community groups.
Deadline: April 15 2005

FELLOWSHIPS

16. Visiting Scholar in Feminist Perspectives on Globalization
Aims to offer highly qualified researchers working from a feminist perspective, from developing countries in Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean and the South Pacific, the opportunity to spend a research term in Ottawa, Canada based at one of two universities.
Deadline: February 15 2005

17. Elizabeth Neuffer Fellowship
Aims to provide an opportunity for a woman journalist working in the print, broadcast or Internet media to spend an academic year in a tailored programme that combines access to Boston-area universities and two media companies, The Boston Globe and The New York Times.

The Transparency and Accountability Network (Tr-Ac-Net) is an international consortium of social organisations and activists around the globe, who have come together to form a global, not-for-profit, social organisation, to create transparent and accountable organisations and communities. Tr-Ac-Net is a practical, web enabled, platform neutral, paperless communication solution, developed using open source tools, for introducing transparency and accountability in governments, corporates, institutions, NGOs and communities. Tr-Ac-Net's primary goal is to help improve relief and development performance by addressing the issue of transparency and accountability in a modern and cost effective manner. The Tr-Ac-Net model for relief and development has the community as the focal point, with contact reaching out to resources and knowhow to help remove constraints and facilitate local programmes. To make this possible Tr-Ac-Net facilitates ICT infrastructure implementation through an affiliated group, WISP for Development (WISPforD).

Tr-Ac-Net would like to partner with social organisations and activists around the globe, to work to introduce transparency and accountability to alleviate poverty and achieve the UN MDGs.

GRANTS & SCHOLARSHIPS

19. GenARDIS Awards
Supports work on gender issues in information and communication technologies (ICTs) in ACP countries (Africa, the Caribbean and Pacific) on agricultural and rural development. Ten non-renewable grants of up to 5,000 Euros will be awarded.

20. African Women's Development Fund - Main Grants Program
Funds local, national, sub-regional and regional organisations in Africa working towards women's empowerment.
Deadline: Rolling deadline

21. Film Making Grants on Tolerance and Peace
Given for production, completion and promotion/marketing costs for exceptional projects of narrative, documentary, short and animated films with a distinctive tolerance theme.

22. African Women's Development Fund - Solidarity Fund
Aims to support African women to participate in exchange visits, conferences, seminars and workshops, thereby providing valuable opportunities for networking and information, "all of which are vital to the strengthening of the African Women's Movement".
